Full Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Delhi to Agra (204 km, roughly 4 hours by road)
Pickup is from your hotel in Delhi, Gurgaon, or Noida — or straight from the airport if that’s where you’re coming from. If you’re being picked up from a hotel, expect your driver around 8:00–9:00 AM. From there, it’s a drive of roughly 3 hours to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway.
Once you arrive, your guide meets you and takes you to your hotel to freshen up. After lunch, the afternoon is given over to Itimad-ud-Daulah, the so-called Baby Taj — a smaller, earlier tomb built almost entirely in white marble with the kind of fine inlay work that later shows up, on a much grander scale, at the Taj Mahal itself.
As the light starts to fade, you head to Mehtab Bagh — the “Moonlight Garden” — which sits directly across the river from the Taj Mahal and is one of the better-known sunset viewpoints in the city. The Taj’s reflection in the Yamuna at that hour is one of those things photos never quite capture. After that, you’re dropped at your hotel for the night.
Day 2 Sunrise at the Taj, Agra Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri
Day 2 starts early — you’re picked up before sunrise to catch the Taj Mahal in its best light, with roughly 2 hours on-site to explore at your own pace. Sunrise visits tend to be quieter and cooler than midday ones, which makes the extra early start worth it.
After the Taj, you’re taken back to the hotel for breakfast and some downtime before checkout. Then it’s on to Agra Fort — the massive red sandstone fortress built by Akbar in the mid-16th century and later expanded by his descendants, including Shah Jahan, who spent his final years confined there with a distant view of the monument he’d built for his wife.
Lunch follows at a multi-cuisine, air-conditioned restaurant, after which you head about 40 minutes outside the city to Fatehpur Sikri — the fortified city Akbar built and then abandoned within a couple of decades, likely due to water shortages. Walking through it now, largely empty of the crowds you’d find at the Taj, gives a different sense of Mughal ambition than the more famous monuments do.
From Fatehpur Sikri, you’re driven back to your hotel in Delhi, Gurgaon, or Noida, or straight to the airport.
Good to know: the Taj Mahal is closed to visitors every Friday, so this itinerary is best planned around that.
