Delhi doesn’t fit neatly into one story. Old Delhi is the Mughal capital — narrow lanes, mosques, forts, and a street market that’s been running more or less the same way for centuries. New Delhi is the British-built capital that came after — wide avenues, government buildings, and 20th-century memorials. Most first-time visitors don’t realize these are two genuinely different cities layered on top of each other until they see both in the same day, which is exactly what this tour is built around.

You get a private, air-conditioned car for the whole day, a guide who knows the history behind each stop, and roughly eight hours to move between Mughal-era monuments in the old city and the government quarter of the new one — with a proper sit-down lunch in between, not a rushed sandwich in the car.

Highlights of Trip

  • A full day of private, guided sightseeing across both Old and New Delhi
  • Red Fort, Chandni Chowk (with a rickshaw ride through the market), and Jama Masjid in the old city
  • Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, Lotus Temple, and a drive past the Presidential and Parliament buildings in the new city
  • Buffet lunch at a restaurant, roughly midway through the day
  • Private air-conditioned car and driver — no group tour pacing
  • English-speaking guide throughout

Full Tour Itinerary

This is roughly an 8-hour tour. Your driver picks you up from your hotel at the recommended start time of 9:00 AM, and you’ll meet your guide en route, who takes it from there.

Old Delhi Monuments

  • Red Fort — the fortified palace built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. You can’t go inside, but the exterior alone gives a sense of the scale Mughal architects were working at.
  • Chandni Chowk — one of Delhi’s oldest and busiest markets, still known for small jewelry, spices, and street food. You’ll do a rickshaw ride through here, which is honestly the best way to take it in — walking it in the crowds is a lot slower.
  • Jama Masjid — India’s largest mosque, built by Shah Jahan (the same emperor behind the Red Fort and the Taj Mahal) and completed in 1656.

Before heading into New Delhi, you’ll stop for lunch at a restaurant.

New Delhi Monuments

  • Qutub Minar — the tallest brick minaret in the world, construction started in 1199 under Qutb al-Din Aibak, founder of the Delhi Sultanate. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Humayun’s Tomb — built for the Mughal emperor Humayun by his son Akbar, and widely considered the architectural blueprint that later informed the design of the Taj Mahal.
  • India Gate — the war memorial commemorating Indian soldiers who died in the First World War and its aftermath.
  • Lotus Temple — the Bahá’í House of Worship, instantly recognizable for its lotus-flower architecture.
  • Presidential and Parliament Buildings — a drive through Delhi’s diplomatic enclave, passing the President’s House and Parliament.

By around 5:00 PM, the tour wraps up and your driver takes you back to your hotel or the airport, whichever you’ve arranged.
